ACCREDITATIONS
RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS
Commitment to safety
HSEQ Committee - LAR’s health & safety and environmental committee meets annually to discuss how we will work together to manage health, safety and welfare together. The committee comprises of a cross section of employees from the LAR business incorporating both Senior Management and elected site staff who are also joined by LAR’s Quality Manager & H&S Consultant. These meetings give us an opportunity to discuss general matters which concern the entire workforce, and so, by seeking cross-functional representation, it enables us to make informed decisions that address company-wide concerns and improve overall safety and well-being.

Accreditations & awards
Our commitment to health and safety has been recognised by the Asbestos Removal Contractors Association (ARCA). Notably, we have earned the Gold Training Award for several consecutive years and the Gold Site Audit Award for 2024, marking 14 consecutive years of achieving this high standard. Our commitment to excellence is further recognised through frequent ‘Contractor of the Month’ awards from key clients such as Kier, Seddon, and recent nominations from Robertson, Tilbury Douglas and Morgan Sindall.

Social value
At LAR, we are committed to creating positive social impact through our various initiatives. One of our recent efforts involves collaborating with a local charities' Senior Criminal Justice Employment Lead for Prison Leavers & Veterans. This partnership aims to address the skills gap and recruit suitable candidates who are prison leavers or military veterans. In October 2024 we identified five candidates who visited the LAR office for initial introductions and interviews. After assessing their suitability, skills, and experience, each candidate was offered a position and has been working at LAR since. This initiative not only benefits LAR by bringing in skilled and motivated individuals but also provides valuable opportunities for those in disadvantaged positions who are eager to work but face challenges in securing employment. By offering these individuals a chance to rebuild their lives and careers, we are fostering a more inclusive and supportive community while addressing our own workforce needs.

Sustainability
LAR is committed to effective stewardship of the environment and sustainability throughout our asbestos removal and associated operations. Through our ISO-accredited Environmental Management System by Alcumus ISOQAR, our culture of continuous improvement ensures that we are always building on our commitments to the environment and combating climate change.

LAR are currently working to embed sustainable practices into day-to-day operations by working towards Silver certification with Supply Chain sustainability school by undertaking training modules and other self-learning initiatives enabling us to implement best practice throughout the business

Groundwork
Groundwork is a collection of charities who are committed to environmental and community-based projects. Established in North West England in 1981, Groundwork now operates around the UK and overseas. LAR have worked closely with Groundwork over the past few years to reduce our carbon emissions, improve our general environmental performance and support our local area with community-focused initiatives. In 2022 we were proud to have been recognised as a ‘Bronze Level’ organisation as part of their Sustainable Business Membership (SBM). With the help of Groundwork, LAR has been able to better understand and enhance their sustainability performance. As of January 2025, we are in the process of gaining ‘Silver' status, and are working hard to actively showcase and implement strong sustainability practices. Aside from working on our internal sustainability goals, working with Groundwork has also provided us with many opportunities to get suck in and help our local community.

NETPositive
LAR have taken a proactive approach to sustainability by working with NETpositive Futures, which helps organisations enhance their sustainability efforts by focusing on positive environmental, social, and economic impacts. They offer strategic support and practical tools to embed sustainability across operations, making it easier for businesses to achieve and demonstrate their sustainability goals. Guided by this initiative, we’ve published a measurable action plan addressing key sustainability priorities, detailed in our Carbon Reduction Plan which outlines our goal of becoming NetZero by 2050.

Carbon
In 2019, the UK committed to achieving 'Net Zero' carbon emissions by 2050, becoming the first major economy to do so. To support this goal, the Government Commercial Function introduced a policy requiring suppliers bidding for significant government contracts to pledge to reach Net Zero by 2050 and disclose a 'Carbon Reduction Plan'. LAR is fully compliant with Action Note PPN 06/21, and is dedicated to achieving Net Zero by 2050. We have developed a comprehensive Carbon Reduction Plan to guide our efforts.

Sustainable travel
As part of our commitment to reducing our environmental impact, we have integrated electric and hybrid cars into our company fleet. This transition not only demonstrates our dedication to sustainable practices but also sets a standard for environmental responsibility within our industry. This strategic move is not only beneficial for the environment by reducing emissions but also offers significant cost savings for both our company and our clients. By embracing these eco-friendly alternatives, we are investing in a greener future while maintaining our commitment to operational and financial efficiency. 22% of our current fleet is either fully electric or hybrid
