OUR SECTORS

Trusted expertise for universities and colleges

Higher-education.png

The higher education sector is one of LAR’s largest sources of repeat business. With extensive experience in higher education settings, LAR has worked on a wide range of building types and structures, including campus environments, CLASP buildings, heritage buildings, as well as concrete constructions. We sit on various Asbestos Removal Frameworks and Preferred Supplier lists for Universities across the UK including; The University of Manchester, The University of Sheffield, The University of York, Manchester Metropolitan University, The University of Lancaster, and The University of Liverpool.

To date we have successfully managed asbestos and mercury removal in buildings with diverse uses, all while ensuring minimal disruption to daily activities. Our projects often involve ‘live’ environments where rooms/buildings must remain operational, therefore necessitating strategic planning and careful execution to maintain safety and functionality.

Case study

On a recent £2.4 million project undertaken in Sheffield, works were completed in three planned phases over an 18-month period. Appointed as Principal Contractor, LAR coordinated follow-on trades and subcontractors ensuring all time spent on site was as efficient as practical.

Work was undertaken during term time meaning high student traffic all whilst LAR’s DBS cleared operatives worked diligently to meet agreed timelines. Effective segregation in busy areas and paying close attention to access routes to avoid congestion and any potential safety issues, meant work was successfully completed on time and in budget.

Due to the size, age, and complexity of many UK university estates, LAR maintains an almost continuous presence on numerous campus
